TORQUE
Application torque guidelines are taken from Technical Bulletin SPI/PBI 20-1982.
They are for closure application by hand under controlled conditions. Special
conditions may require values other than those listed.

REMOVAL
TORQUE
Removal torque values are approximately 40% to 60% of the hand application
torque values. Production capping equipment should be adjusted to produce similar
immediate removal torque values. If removal torque is used for Quality Control
purposes, the best reproducibility and correlation torque is obtained if the
specimens are tested within five minutes of the time the closure is applied.Tightness
and removal torque may be affected by many factors such as: head pressure and
the time cycle, specific caps and bottles used, type of liner, product being
packed, time after tightening and conditions of storage. In other words, removal
torque alone becomes a measure of how tightly the cap was applied only when
other factors are known or controlled.
